Adult Education Found to Boost Mental Wellbeing
It's official from a robust piece of interesting social research that taking a leap into a educational course does wonders for you in so many ways! What are you waiting for? Learn and enjoy the wonderful traditional craft of stained glass! Create a masterpiece.
Funded by the European Commission, the Benefits of Lifelong Learning (BeLL) study investigated the benefits to learners of participation in organised non-formal, non-vocational, voluntary adult education in ten Europe countries.
The responses of adult learners participating in non-vocational courses over a year were revealed that studying boosted their self-confidence and wellbeing, as well as expanding their social networks.
The results showed that adult learners experience numerous benefits from liberal adult education. Tolerance for others grew, learners paid more attention to their health and some even reported changes in their work and career opportunities. They feel healthier and seem to lead healthier lifestyles; they build new social networks and experience improved wellbeing. Moreover, adults who participate in liberal adult education appear to feel more motivated to engage in lifelong learning and view it as an opportunity to improve their lives.
